  A Message from Congregation

President Vicki West

December 2011

Dear Church Family,

“And I pray that you…may have power…to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love…”     Ephesians 3:14-20 (excerpt)

Dear Church Family,

The year is coming to a close…another year that went by so quickly!  Pastor Mike’s sermon this past Sunday reminded us to prepare our hearts for the Christmas     season by remembering the “reason for the season”! While there is enjoyment in the tree-trimming, gifts, food and cards, I will be trying hard not to feel the “holiday stress”…I hope you will do the same.

As I write this last letter of 2011 I am pondering two things: the first is the year’s end for United. Our church as an organization is struggling, like most places are in the current economy. We struggle not only financially but also with “human resources”. The needs are many and the workers are few. I acknowledge that there are many members of United that give of their time and talent. And there are many who generously give of their monetary blessings. I NEVER want to forget that we are blessed with much!  Instead I want to ENCOURAGE you who are reading this to think about where you can be “the hands or feet of God” in our church. We have needs in all areas; if the Lord is nudging you to step up, we will gladly receive you!

The second thing on my heart is so beautifully stated in the book of Ephesians 3:14-20. And that is the unfathomable love that God has for each one of us. Paul’s prayer to the Ephesians is like a love letter. In fact, it was suggested to me that I could    insert the name of someone dear to me in this verse and pray it for them every day. It amazes me “how wide and long and high and deep” God’s love is for all of us!! My prayer for you and yours this Advent and Christmas season is that you’ll remember that love and be strengthened by it. Merry Christmas to all!

                                                        God Bless and Keep You,

                                                        Vicki West, Council Chair
